(Meanwhile, here’s what I’m doing for the paper, this month)

Bob Pruett offered a little support and encouragement after my final CrossFit workout for 2024.
The workout had been brutal, one of those extra physically demanding “girl name” workouts CrossFit is kind of famous for. This one, called “Eva,” involved a lot of running, plus 150 73-pound kettlebell swings and 150 pullups.
Bob finished the workout either first or second out of the class. His time would be in the top five or six by the end of the day.
I finished last. Some of the others from the class had already left the building. They’d gone on to the next part of their day.
Of course, we weren’t all doing the same workout.
People tailor their workouts at CrossFit based on what they can do. Some do less weight or less running or both (a few people will do more). It still stung a little to be on the floor as the next class began to shuffle in for the coach to go over the day’s plan.
As usual, when I do badly, there are excuses.
“I was a little hungover,” I told Bob. “I had a little too much to drink yesterday.”
